Þorgerður Kristín Þráinsdóttir has been appointed the new CEO of ÁTVR, starting on September 1st. The announcement was published on the website of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, where it was noted that Þorgerður was selected from a group of nineteen applicants. Þorgerður has served as CEO of the Fríhöfnin Duty Free store since 2014, and previously worked at Lyfja hf., as Director of Stores and Marketing and Human Resources Manager.

An important part of Vínbúðin's social responsibility is to ensure that customers have reached the age of 20, and the staff is therefore trained to ask the youngest customers for ID. In collaboration with Stafrænt Ísland and the National Police Commissioner, a solution has been developed to scan electronic driver's licenses. Of course, it is still possible to use other traditional IDs or passports.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy ruled today that ÁTVR‘s charging for the collection of alcohol samples for quality control was not based on the law. The fee was based on Article 43 of the product selection regulation, no. 1106/2015. "Due to quality control, ÁTVR is always authorized, at the expense of the supplier, to take a sample of a product from the product inventory or ask the supplier for a sample." ​The ministry's conclusion is based on the fact that there is no special authorization in the law for the charge prescribed by the regulation.

ÁTVR's pricing of products in Vínbúðin is determined by laws approved by Parliament, as well as by regulations issued by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs. The law states that the markup of ÁTVR shall be based on the percentage of alcohol; 18% on alcohol with a 22% or lower percentage of alcohol and 12% if the percentage of alcohol is higher than 22%.

ÁTVR has made an arangement with Hríseyjarbúðin on the delivery of products from Vínbúðin's web shop. The goal is to improve service of customers in Hrísey, who can now access the entire range of products available at the Vínbúðin stores. It is Vínbúðin's hope that this service will be well received. In the Web shop customers can browse the product selection, order products and have them sent to the Vínbúðin store of their choice - free of charge. If an order is placed before 2 PM, same day pick up is available at the warehouse in Stuðlaháls 2. In the product list the entire selection of products available at Vínbúðin at any given time can be viewed, and it is also simple to place a special order for the products that are not available on the Vínbúðin's shelves.

ÁTVR has decided not to appeal the decision of the Reykjavík District Court on the dismissal of cases that were filed with the aim of stopping the sale of alcohol in domestic online stores. All Vínbúðin stores will be closed on Monday 1. August due to Commerce day. This is one of the busiest weekends in Vínbúðin. Most of the customers arrive on Friday between 16-18, or up to 6.500 customers per hour. Every effort is made to assist the customers to avoid long lines and those that want to avoid the lines are encouraged to be timely.

Vínbúðin received the highest score of all companies in Íslenska ánægjuvogin (Icelandic Customer Satisfaction Committee), presented this morning. This is the third consecutive year that Vínbúðins‘s customers give it their highest rating. Vínbúðin received a score of 73.8. For comparison, the average of all companies in this survey was 63.0. The goal of Íslenska ánægjuvogin is to provide organizations with coordinated measurements of customer satisfaction, as well as factors that affect customer satisfaction such as image, quality accessment and customer loyalty. We are very proud of this accomplishment and thank our customers for their vote of confidence. We are determined to do even better in all areas, whether it be in service or social responsibility.

Vínbúðin and Oddi have teamed up in the recycling of used plastic from in the operation of Vínbúðin. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce waste. Both companies recently signed a declaration on climate change, along with other local businesses, and this project fits well with the plan to reduce the environmental footprint.
