ÁTVR not to appeal decision

31.03.2022

ÁTVR has decided not to appeal the decision of the Reykjavík District Court on the dismissal of cases that were filed with the aim of stopping the sale of alcohol in domestic online stores.

ÁTVR considers that it is not in accordance with the law, violates ÁTVR's monopoly and is in direct opposition to the current alcohol- and public health policy, but the district court dismissed the cases.

Both the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, who is in charge of the law on trade in alcohol and tobacco, and the Minister of Justice, who is in charge of the Alcohol Act, consider it necessary to review and clarify laws and regulations on the retail sale of alcohol.

ÁTVR has therefore decided to accept the district court's decision in the belief that the legislature and regulators will take up the case.
