Seasonal beers are becoming ever more popular and have have undoubtedly paved the way for the so-called craft beers. Breweries have embraced this popularity which is a cause for joy for beer enthusiasts, who can now wait in anticipation of what seasonal beers the breweries offer at Easter, in the summer, around Oktoberfest, Christmas and at þorrinn.
Þorri (the fourth winter month, from mid January to mid February, in the old Icelandic calendar) starts this Friday, January 20th and the Þorri seasonal beer will be available in Vínbúðin stores from January 19th.
It’s nice to see that manufacturers are perhaps a little more adventurous in the production of Þorri seasonal beer than in many other beers. Different styles, exotic ingredients and experiments with oak maturation seem to be the norm now, with interesting and exciting results.
I encourage people to look at the range of Þorri seasonal beers available this year. Some people want to try these beers with fermented food. That is fine. I plan to enjoy them by themselves.
